EDUCATIONAL GRANTS FOR 2013-2014

Congratulations were given to nine Windward O'ahu women at the annual AAUW Windward O'ahu Branch Scholarship Luncheon held on May 5, 2012.  The nine applicants were chosen to receive grants of $1000 or more to help further their post-secondary education.  Over $14,000 in scholarships were awarded to the Windward high school graduates and college students.

The grants are to be used for educational expenses at a regionally accredited, post-secondary institution in the state of Hawaii. Grants are paid directly to the institution after verification of acceptance of the recipient.  The grant is for study at the undergraduate level only, for use in the year in which it is awarded.

Contributions to the grant awards are managed by the Windward O'ahu AAUW Scholarship Fund, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.  Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.   Branch fundraising proceeds from luncheons, book sales, garage sales and other activities benefit the Scholarship Fund.  Other contributions to the fund are made by the Susan B. Anthony Bank, the annual Endowment Fund Drive and members wishing to contribute in memory of a friend or family member.

Applicants must be:

Legal Hawaii Residents of Windward O'ahu.

Enrolled in or accepted for admission at a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in the state of Hawaii and have not previously earned a baccalaureate degree.

Enrolled at least half-time in a classified degree program.

Selection will be based on academic potential and need as determined by the Educational Grants Committee of the Windward Branch.  Preference will be given to previous grant recipients in good academic standing.

Applications are available from all Windward O'ahu high schools, all O'ahu campuses of the University of Hawaii (including community colleges), Bringham Young University, Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Phoenix (Honolulu).
