Educational Grants
AAUW Windward Branch plans again to award several grants for the 2011- 2012 academic year.
Applicants must be:
· Legal, Hawaii women residents of Windward Oahu.
· Enrolled at least half time in a classified degree program or accepted for admission at a
regionally accredited post-secondary institution in the state of Hawaii and not previously awarded a
baccalaureate degree.
Selection will be based on academic potential and need, as determined by the Educational Grants
Committee of AAUW Windward Branch. Preference will be given to previous grant recipients in
good academic standing.
The applicant must submit:
1. Completed educational grant application,
2. A type-written statement which addresses all three of the following:
(a) applicant’s educational and career goals
(b) why applicant believes she should be awarded a grant from AAUW Windward Branch
(c) why the applicant chose the college that she will attend
3. A copy of applicant’s high school transcript if she has not attended college, or most recent
college transcript ( including work in progress) and
4. Two letters of recommendation (to be mailed directly to the committee). These should be
from teachers, counselors, employers, supervisors or others who are well acquainted with the
student’s abilities and potential – not relatives. (It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the
letters of recommendation are postmarked by the March 1, 2010 deadline.)
Application materials will not be returned. All materials – Application, Personal Statement,
Transcripts, and Letters of Recommendation – must be postmarked by March 1, 2010 and sent

Awards will be made in April 2010. Awardees will be invited to the Branch Scholarship Luncheon
